West of Kremlin is Kutuzov avenue with Borodino panorama, triumphal arch commemorating Kutuzov's victory over Napoleon in 1812, and Kutuzov's wooden hut. The Battle Panorama is housed in a cylindrical building, built in 1962 to commemorate the 150the anniversary of the Battle of Borodino.
The battle of Borodino or the Bataille de la Moskova as Frenchmen call it took place about 13km (8miles) from Mozhaisk, which is a good base for exploring the famous battleground with its various monuments.
The grounds can be found about 100km out of Moscow. Founded in 1903, the
museum is now located in a building erected in 1912 to commemorate the centenary of the 15-hour battle between French and Russian armies on August 26, 1812. The collection includes guns, pictures, and personal relics.
Over 30 other monuments are scattered over Borodino Field, most of them erected in 1912, dedicated to Field Marshal Kutuzov and other generals and to whole regiments. There is also a monument to French soldiers and officers.
